“Nellie! It’s so good to see you again!” exclaimed Maryellen. “I was so surprised to get your letter in the mail.
“Thanks so much for helping me out,” said Nellie.
Maryellen became concerned when she saw Nellie’s legs with so little strength in them. She wondered if her family’s grand-daughter had to be extra careful with her, or if they were scared to take Nellie out at all. That did not seem like the Nellie she knew who loved to be active and play. Maryellen’s thoughts were interrupted by Dakota.
“Nellie, meet Dakota – she is new here.”
“Wow, you two really do look alike! And your names rhyme — Ellie and Nellie!” said Dakota. “Nice to meet you.”
Maryellen helped Nellie get comfortable in the living room. She noticed when Nellie sat down, her leg flopped sideways. Maryellen tried not to stare and busied herself with snacks.
The girls caught up on family news, school, and the latest books.
After a silent pause, Nellie said, “I really need to get to the hospital to have my leg fixed, but I am nervous! I’ve never been far from home, except to visit family.”
Maryellen thought for a moment, then had the perfect idea! “When Josefina gets home you can talk with her – she is a Pleasant Company girl too, and she had her shoulder fixed at the doll hospital. I’m sure she could tell you all about it.
That night Dakota and Addy slept in sleeping bags so Nellie and Josefina could talk without a crowd. After they climbed into bed, Josefina told her all about her exciting trip to Madison, Wisconsin. She was so relieved to have her shoulder fixed because Brianna had stopped playing with her.
“Nellie, I have a secret to tell you,” said Josefina. “When you visit the doll hospital you not only get your leg fixed, but you get a spa treatment too! Don’t tell all the girls or they will want to sneak into the box with you!”
Josefina made Nellie feel very special. She was eager to start her journey tomorrow.

Nellie really does belong to a friend who travels in winter. The last time we borrowed Nellie I noticed that her leg was very VERY loose. It happens to a Pleasant Co girl after many years. Since we always have a doll hospital box on hand, we are sending Nellie for her leg repair and she will be good as new when our friend returns in spring. She does know we are doing this. Please do not doll-nap someone else’s doll 😉 We will be sure to let you know when Nellie returns.

I’m glad that Josefina was able to calm her fears. Kit will be going to the hospital sometime soon for surgery on her eye. She’s very nervous and is anxious to hear what Nellie thinks.

We will definitely keep you posted. Would Kit have a head replacement?

From what I read on the application, you can get just an eye replacement. I need to check further on it, otherwise I may take her elsewhere, I don’t want her to have a different head!

Oh yes, I see on the intake form “new eye”.
Nellie made a trip to the UPS store today.

Thanks! Nellie is all packed up and headed to the UPS store tomorrow. With a little luck she will be back in 2-3 weeks and be good to go for another 10-15 years.

I sent in my niece’s Kit doll for a limb tightening and my Emily for a head replacement 4 weeks ago and I have not heard a word from AG. I took them to the store for this (it was my excuse to go see Lea up close and in person) and they told me the hospital was busy and they’d come back in 4-6 weeks. I won’t call them until after 6 weeks have passed by, but I thought you might want to know that.
What a cute story! I’m glad Josefina was able to give Nellie some advice.

Good to know… Glad I got her in the mail today because I would like her to be back home before my friend gets home for Easter. When we sent Josefina a year or more ago, it took about 2 weeks!

Yes that was me when I sent Kanani and Amy to the DH two years ago and they came back in two weeks. Last year I sent in Lanie and she came back two months later. Maybe they have fewer workers? Or it’s just really busy.

Aww, this is so sweet! I love that Josefina was able to calm Nellie’s nerves about the doll hospital. I remember getting Marie-Grace back from the Doll Hospital and being impressed by how carefully she had been packaged.

I really should send Melody for limb tightening, but have read so many horror stories I’m too frightened to do it. She has a Pleasant company head so I’m thinking the older style joints. This calms my fears somewhat, but would love to hear more about the experience and any tips to make sure she comes back properly.

Will do! When Josefina went, we went to the UPS Store and they shipped her for $9.96. They already had the Doll Hospital in their database and I like that they have access to all of your contact information should something happen in shipping. They made a box for me!
The one thing I will say is that the doll hospital rebraided Josie’s hair and trimmed the ends slightly so they were even. It looked great, but I would leave a note if something like that would be a concern. She looks amazing and her joints should be good to go for a long time.
We will report back on Nellie.

I’ve kept Grace’s shipping box just in case, but that’s a great idea about having UPS make a box. Not sure they would braid and trim Melody, her original style is long, straight with bangs. But it makes sense to leave a note. 🙂

Have you heard anything on her yet? I’m anxious to hear what kind of turn around they have right now. Kit and Abby are both going to make a trip before the year is out, just have to decide who gets to go first!

Nothing yet, nor has the credit card been charged. Based on what Heather said earlier in the comments, I’m thinking its 6+ weeks wait. I hope she gets back before Easter because when my friend comes back From being a snowbird I wanted to have Nellie dressed up with an Easter basket sitting on her couch! I’ll let you know asap even if it’s just a quick email.
