American Girl Wilmot Sale 2016 – Reader Recap

noexif_IMG_4663_privateReader Abby was so kind to report back on the American Girl Wilmot Warehouse Sale (Wilmot, Wisconsin).  This year the sale occurred a full month earlier than in the past, and, alas, we still have school and work keeping us at home.  This is the first year that they have also sold dolls, though the dolls seemed to mostly be JLY dolls with bangs — the same ones who have been at the Outlet Store the past year or so.

Abby says:

“I went today! It was so much fun and wasn’t too crowded! I did not see any Bitty Twin items!

–Jen here… exciting, don’t you think?  I would have picked up a few Santa outfits, and the AG messenger and lunch bags are a great price.  I do believe I read on Facebook the messenger bag was $15.00 yesterday.  Going on Day 2 may be a wise decision.  The sale continues – albeit briefly – on Saturday.  For more details visit Mattel

Thanks again Abby.  I enjoyed the thrill of the sale through you!

Great to see you back on WP. I should talk… My dolls have been dressed in their meet outfits since spring break!! I’m looking forward to enjoying them more when school is out.

My daughter and I went yesterday around 5:30 and spent almost $200 mostly on clothes. Dresses ($10-$20) skirts, leggings, pajamas, t-shirts $3, bathing suits ($4-$10), headbands for girls $2, slippers $3-$8, beach hats $2, books and misc items such as sunglasses for dolls $3, hair buns & braids & watches $3-$6. There were two dolls to choose from at $80. We didn’t get any. We wish there were more outfits for dolls. Overall, we are happy with our findings and there were no lines at all. At checkout we were given four $20 off $50 to spend at the Mattel store next door. We of course had to check it out and spent about $40 after the $20 off on six Ever After dolls and two mini Barbies. My daughters are so happy!

Thanks for the news, Ydalis! Wonderful that you and your girls had such a great time. We have had good luck with pretty much all of the AG clothes for girls, including a very fancy dress. Saige’s clothes for girls were my daughter’s favorites. I’m sorry she is growing out of them. The 5:00 time slot seems to be a good one for people who want to have fun and not spend hours checking out.
Have you ever gone to the Madison doll sale?

First I’d like to thank you because I first found out about the Wilmot sale through reading your blog.
We went last year for the very first time. We paid for the $15 tickets to get in during the first hour of the Sunday sale. There were very slim pickings but we bought two JLY dolls at $45 each! There was a limit of four. Bittys were $25 and we bought one. At that price who can pass up a Bitty Baby!
The historical dolls ($90) as well as JLY blondes and redheads ($55) were gone since Sat morning (we were
    told).
I would like to go this year just out of curiosity. But it’s a three hour drive and the Sunday tickets are $20! Are you or anyone else going?

We ordered tickets for Saturday … Whether we go will depend on the time we get. The Sat tix are 7.00 or 8.00 so I figured it was a risk I could take and it benefits the museum at least. If we go this year I would love to get a cute doll for my church’s holiday boutique sale.
Not sure what to expect at MCM sale… It does seem they want to move merchandise in other ways.

I too went to the Wilmont sale this year. I went on Thursday, the first day. I have gone for 4 years now and the prices have increased each year. The items I am most interested are the clothes and shoes for the dolls, and those items are quite limited now. They had a lot more children’s clothes this year compared to any of the other years I have attended the sale. They had no books this year, and even tho there were lots of items for Bitties, I have seen more in past years. The dolls were in the back section, they were all JLY and there was not a big selection, they had some Bitty Babies, but no Historical dolls. the 18 inch dolls were $80 and the Bitties were $42. The signs were still up so you could see what sold out and it was everything Samantha and other Historical dolls except for Addy and Kaya . I got in about 11 and in line to check out at about 12:30, but it took until about 2:15 to get to checkout. I have never waited that long to check out before. I did speak to one of the men watching the door. He was a full time employee there, not one of the temps and he told me that AG was thinking about doing another Wilmont sale this fall, probably in October. I’m sure there will be some notice ahead of time if that is going to happen. I am also a volunteer at the MCM sale in Middleton. The doll prices last year were $57.50 for 18 “, and there was a huge selection. This is 1/2 of the regular price. The Historical dolls were $75, and I think the Bitties were $40, but I’m not too sure about that, since I don’t follow them. They also have accessories for dolls and some clothes for girls. If you are interested in dolls, the Museum sale is the place to shop.

Hi Carol, thanks for writing. I agree that the Madison Children’s Museum sale is THE place for discounted dolls, and I am glad that it seems to remain that way for a while. We had 7:30 am tickets last year and I think most every historical was available except for retired dolls like Molly. (A full MCM trip report is available at https://dollsbetweenus.wordpress.com/2015/07/19/madison-american-girl-sale-part-2/ )

AG hinted on FB that the prices on dolls at Wilmot would be especially nice, but you are right… Selection and price at MCM better.

Thank you for volunteering. We met the nicest people there last year! Check out was a piece of cake too. As you note, the lines to pay at Wilmot can be extremely long on day 1.

I thought they were closing the Wilmot store in July? Just not sure about the October sale unless they will have it at another location. It does sound to me like they are holding back more recent merchandise to put on the website, and using this as a way to clear out some of the older stuff. It’s definitely interesting!

The outlet is about 70 miles away in Oshkosh. Wilmot is a warehouse that handles shipping I think to stores and Madison ships to homes. It’s just a big ol building kinda in the middle of nowhere but near enough to Chicago

That’s really cool. All those items sound awesome, they sound similar to the items at the Oshkosh Outlet. I defiantly would have bought an American Girl Messenger Bag.

I have gone to Wilmot previous years and have always been notified but was shocked when I heard they already had their sale and no inkling about it. I had been at the outlet a few weeks ago and nobody mentioned it. Sorry that I missed it.

Sorry to hear that. Even those who did know they changed the date may have had conflicts with school still bring in session 😟
Interesting that they may have another sale in fall to take the place of the Outlet store.

All I wanted is the new doll Lea Clark and a set of pajamas in Leopard print for Grace! I have seven American Girl dolls in my collection and I really want to add Lea Clark so that she can meet her doll friends that are on my dresser at home! Is there a way if I could get the doll delivered to my house?

I wanna know if it would be possible if I could get Lea Clark doll and a few of her items so that I can add her to my collection! I know Grace retired the day after Christmas because she’s my favorite doll and I love her very much and she wants to meet Lea Clark!

I’m looking for a set of pajamas in Pink for my doll Grace Thomas because she likes Leopard print and the only reason why I’m asking is because she doesn’t have a pair to sleep with because I’m the one who puts pajamas on her at night!

Hi Maritza… no dates are available yet. Most recently it was Thurs-Sunday near Mother’s Day. It has also been in June just before kids get out of school. I will do a post when dates are known. Attending on the first day can be overwhelming because of eBay people with moving vans buying items. Often the outfits will be intentionally missing one element, for example a historical outfit might be sold without the shoes.
It seems Mattel is increasingly willing to sell items on their website, which is nice.
No dolls have been at the Wilmot sale, but things can change. Dolls are sold at the Madison Children’s Museum benefit sale in July.
