Have you been talking about the American Girl of the Year-2017 while I was busy painting Brianna’s room and reading books for the coming school year? The GOTY books for 2017 are posted on Amazon (no links below) with an accompanying author named Teresa Harris. Book #1 is released on Dec 27, 2016.
I have never read any of Ms. Harris’ other books, but she seems to write about African American female characters, so here’s hoping we might see a 2017 doll of color yet! If you would like to learn more about the author, head on over to the blog The Brown Bookshelf.

Very interesting…. I haven’t heard anything about GOTY 2017 besides this. Is there anything else being talked about? Rumors or leaks or anything?
I find it interesting that AG is starting to release the books before the doll. In a way I don’t like it because I feel like it takes away from the specialness of getting the doll and book and reading it once you have the doll, but I also do kinda like it because then we get to know the character beforehand. 🙂

I haven’t heard anything else about GOTY 2017, but I have been out of the loop lately. I have also read that Kathleen Ernst (Caroline) is wrapping up another book for AG, but we don’t know yet whether it is a new historical or a continuing story for an existing character.
Actually, someone did say that 2017 could mark the end of GOTY dolls, but I believe they heard that through a sales clerk, and that hasn’t usually been too reliable.
I agree with you… The big gap for Melody wasn’t ideal for me. I read her book ages ago!!!

Yeah, I haven’t read any of Melody’s books because I’m waiting for the doll to come out (just a couple more weeks!). I like having both of them at the same time.
I’ve also heard this might be the last GOTY and that they possibly might replace GOTY with a group of girls – the contemporary series. I also heard a rumor that GOTY2017 has something to do with Truly Me doll #46, which was why AG pulled her off the shelves. This is ALL rumor they only fact we know is AG said somewhere that the reason they pulled 46 off is they are going to revamp her somehow, and that’s how everyone guessed GOTY.

Interesting! If you look at the first picture in the blog post, you see a picture for a Contemporary Series novel by Kellen Hertz which is a “middle grade novel featuring contemporary characters.” TO be released Jan 2017.

Personally, I like the idea of Bitties, Wellies and Contemporary and Historical dolls to span multiple ages and play styles.
