One special memory I have from attending the Madison Children’s Museum doll sale two years ago is the lapel pins many of the volunteers wore. I thought it was so neat that these ladies, many of them retirees, were still rocking their Pleasant Company historical doll pins in a Mattel era.
I ventured onto eBay to see if I might scoop some up for myself and found they can be purchased very reasonably.
I am the proud owner of:
Now that I am working in an elementary library I have an “excuse” to wear the pins. I am promoting reading! (Of course this is just a guise shielding a crazy doll lady underneath).
Today I wore my Josefina pin. I hope at least some of the kids know who Josefina is — one girl told me a few weeks ago she has an American Girl doll. When I asked which one she said, “The one on the swing.” (Maryellen, but she didn’t know her name). I hope the heaps of characters out today don’t diminish the strength of the core characters.
Anyway, it was a small purchase but one I am really enjoying.
Cool

Do you know the Ailment, WI warehouse sale dates for AG this year?

WIlmot sale dates are not available yet. I will definitely do a post. Usually we would know by the end of March but lately AG is changing it up more often than not.

Cool find! I’m with you in hoping that the stories for the historicals don’t get lost in the shuffle. So much good information as well as positive messages. It would be a shame for them to get shoved aside.

Thanks! I continue to do “market research” in the library. We just got Tenney, Lea, and Felicity’s books in, so I’m curious to see how they get checked out.
Snow treating you OK?

We lucked out and didn’t get all that much here. Most of it hit east of us, thank heavens! It sure was windy yesterday though.

How lovely; had never seen or heard of these lapel pins before. They’re also perfect for wearing in your school library position, as well as fun to see IF any young girls recognize them.

Thanks! I think the whole set was about 10.00 with shipping.

Great find! Keep wearing those pins! I’m glad our library has kept the original book series in stock. Most are even in the white bindings still! I hope those interested in the BeForever’s check out the original stories too.

Will do! We also have many of the Pleasant Company books that still are hanging on. The most checked out character is Julie.

Not surprised as Julie is in my top 3 favs and DD and I now have a dozen dolls between us. In fact, Julie has the most purchased AG outfits, as I cannot resist them, though I don’t have any ‘older’ ones and not all the newer ones, but LOVE to sew for her also!

If you have Amazon Prime, Julie and Ivy’s movie is streaming next Friday. I confess I ordered something for Julie today on Amazon. I appreciate that a lot of the historical items are on Prime now.
Is your DD currently an enthusiast as well?

Interesting. Julie has my least favorite story line because we did have girls basketball teams when I was growing up. Even my mom was on a girls’ team in the late 50s. Now the eagle part of the story and Ivy’s book those are cool!

That’s so neat your Mom was on a team!

🙂 She wasn’t a fan. Doesn’t consider herself athletic, but there is proof she played in her high school year book.

I love those pins and the modern grin pins are super cute too (they at least promote learning). Your pin is like your secret sign that only AG lovers will know about! hee hee!

Right… those who are clueless will only be mildly puzzled, but those who know the “sign” will understand! 😃

No Prime for me, but thanks for thinking of me; sure it will be fun. I’ve bid on a couple Ivy dolls on ebay recently, but then bought Tenney & Logan shortly after their release. DD isn’t an enthusiast at the present time, but married just over a year now w/a new house/yard, 2 dogs and new job position that more than keeps her busy. I’m still ‘babysitting’ her 3 beloved PC dolls since she’s afraid their dogs might ‘love them to death’ if they got a chance! She actually moved back in for 3 months while their house was being built and wanted Julie, but then insisted I keep her when she came. I felt obliged to comply w/her wishes – LOL!
