Goodbye, Tenney

Yesterday American Girl announced they are retiring Tenney and Logan at the end of the year.

I saw that the Madison Children’s Museum sale is selling Tenney on the last day of the sale for $50.00 (no limit!) in a sealed box… and I wonder whether she will be sold without the “X” on her bottom identifying her as an MCM purchase.

In other news, I noticed when checking my Amazon WishList that the book for the new contemporary character was never released this summer.

The book (and doll, presumably) had a release date of June 26, 2018.  This seems to have been scrapped, for now, just like the re-release of Molly.

I feel like I come bearing bad news on this Sunday morning.  Maybe it is the humid rainy weather!  I hope American Girl can hang on in the tough times they seem to be facing.

Update: Z Yang and Gabriela are going at the of year, too.

Wow!!! They must have just announced this? I wonder why they’re announcing Tenney when they’ve been letting Addy and possibly josefina and maybe even more just kind of dwindle…..
    And sad about Molly too.
Wonder what they’ll do with Z and Gabriela. I heard a new GOTY will be coming out next year.

I heard about Tenney yesterday; it’s on her page on the AG website. Maybe they feel it’s easier to retire Tenney and Logan than to make a proclamation about Addy or Josefina.
I have a feeling they will go from lots of dolls to fewer and try to survive. I’m no expert though! The fact that they closed the Wilmot warehouse and shipping dept makes me think they are shrinking.

Yes indeed, and the toys r us bankruptcy certainly doesn’t help nor have all these ceo changes either. I hope they’ll pull through.
(Looking forward to your TBT list!)

Many people share your perspective. There’s just so many products they put out this year, and I think poor Nanea got lost amidst them all.

I haven’t checked up further on the story about an outlet store opening in the Hershey area, I’ll have to do some research. I can’t say that I’m surprised about Tenney and Logan, I think they had a limited appeal and after the initial excitement, sales went down because I noticed that there were still things left in Kohl’s long after the holiday season was over. The rest of the things not being released though is concerning.

It’s on her page on the AG website below the header image. Having her at Kohl’s meant we purchased a good number of her outfits.

Personally, I wasn’t interested in Tenney or Logan. Still, retirements like this make me sad. However, I’m excited for the new things down the pipeline. I hope American Girl can continue to be successful. For me, I’ve always loved the historical dolls, so I hope they will introduce a new character down the line.

I did enjoy Tenney’s book… I think it was all the talk about food trucks.
I see kids at school who have and know about Maryellen. She seems to be one of the more popular historical dolls in our area. Like you, I hope they will continue to invest in the historicals and hire terrific authors like Kirby Larson and Valerie Tripp to write the books.
