BREAKING: Wilmot Sale to Have Dolls

From Facebook.  For the first time that I can remember, the Wilmot warehouse sale will have dolls.  It’s going to be CRAY-ZEE!  They have not listed prices and no AG gift cards can be used.   To read our past report on the Wilmot sale, go here. https://dollsbetweenus.wordpress.com/category/wilmot-sale/

Limits will be in place.  They have not identified what the limit will be.  Either way, the EBay contingent will be in full force.  I wonder if this is the beginning of AG pulling back from the Madison Benefit Doll Sale.

Lanie Settles In

IMG_6794Welcome Lanie!  Brianna’s Lanie arrive in excellent shape – only missing her headband and underwear.  Neither a deal-breaker for her.

Since December, Brianna’s Dad had been scouting “Lanies” on eBay.  Every now and then he would say, “This one is closing in 2 hours!”  Inevitably, I said no.  “We just got Maryellen AND Dakota!” I said.  He didn’t give up.  When Brianna’s birthday was about a month away, he suggested this Lanie.  I still wasn’t sure.  What if there was something wrong with her, or she smelled funny?  What if her hair was a wreck?  It is hard to tell the state of curly hair on eBay.  He made a bid, and as fate would have it, she was on her way to our house.  She was about $90.00 with shipping.

When Brianna opened her presents, she of course knew a doll was under the wrapping.  She guessed it could be a historical because of the red box.  We, of course, said, “What historical don’t we already have?!?!?”

Soft, bouncy hair

Soft, bouncy hair

This Lanie has the softest hair.  I think a new Lanie would have tighter curls, but we love her hair the way it is!  It is not as brassy blond as Isabelle’s hair.

IMG_6789Sweet face, dark green eyes.  Wig is thick and is not shedding the way our newer dolls do.

IMG_6787We quickly bought the Lanie book on eBay so it did feel like getting a NIB doll.  It will be interesting to see whether Brianna buys Lea with the money she has been saving or whether the eBay bug has bit her and she thinks about other GOTY dolls.

Dakota was thrilled that Lanie joined her!  Best friends ready for an adventure.

Buyer Beware

I was reading on the agplaythings proboards about a troubling new scam affecting American Girl and eBay.  An individual reported purchasing a “Buy it Now” item “Brand New in Box” for less than the item currently sells for from American Girl.  In this case it was Grace’s Pastry Cart being sold for $120 instead of the regular price of $150 or so.

The innocent person received the item, directly mailed from American Girl, but the purchaser’s name on the invoice was not hers.  Furthermore, the price on the invoice was the regular AG price plus added shipping.  Apparently, some criminals take a stolen credit card, buy something and ship it to an eBay customer (as you would if you were sending a gift), and the customer is then essentially paying a criminal for stolen goods.  The thief just made $120.00 and the customer now is sitting with an item bought with a stolen credit card. Scary stuff!  Apparently this is also happening with Lego merchandise.

It’s extra confusing because occasionally you do see items on eBay that are legitimately selling below the price on the American Girl website.  We have seen overstock items at Wilmot or the Oshkosh outlet at prices different than the AG website.  Usually this is clothing or returned items, not large ticket items.

I don’t use eBay very much – has anyone seen items listed like this recently?  If you want to read more, search on American Girl drop ship scam.

American Girl Outlet, Oshkosh

We paid an Easter visit to Great-Grandma today; she lives not far from the American Girl Outlet store in Oshkosh.

Wilmot OutletUsually my opinion of the Outlet store is ho-hum.  Today they had some really unique items and fairly good prices.  I wondered whether this is a run-up to the Wilmot sale in June.

noexif_IMG_5716_privateRebecca’s school set, $14.00.

Caroline’s ice skates… very neat!

noexif_IMG_5713_privateJulie’s roller skates, $20.00.  I remember these from my childhood!

noexif_IMG_5731_privateBrianna had a gift card and picked up the Pet Hiking Set, $7.00!

noexif_IMG_5730_privatenoexif_IMG_5734_privateAnd she also found Rembrandt, Saige’s dog!  He was also $ 7.00.  Saige is still top doll around here, so it is neat for her to have Saige’s dog.

Saige RembrantI picked up Julie’s original Meet book for $1.00.  Hard-cover historical books were $3.00.  I was tempted by Addy’s new Meet outfit (without shoes) for 17.00, but something else called Addy’s name.  You’ll have to wait until her birthday on Thursday to find out what it was!

We also saw:

  • Kit’s school lunch box
  • Kit’s desk ($100)
  • Julie’s calico dress ($20.00)
  • Julie’s grill, $7.00
  • Kaya’s dog & teepee
  • Rebecca’s meet outfit and the play outfit
  • Julie’s accessories
  • Ivy’s meet outfit ($10.00)
  • One of Caroline’s cow, Garnet
  • A springtime background play scene, $7.00
  • Saige’s tunic outfit $10.00

That’s the scoop from here!
