Toys R Us, Meet American Girl

img_8040You know if there is something happening in the world of American Girl, it is hard for me to stay away!  I pried Brianna away from her Animal Jam computer game and away we went at 9 am to Toys R Us (TRU) for the launch of the Truly Me line.

There was a crowd-control line established, but long empty by the time we arrived.  I asked the clerk if there was ever a need to line up and she said that the first person in line received a doll.  Nice!

As we came in there was an opportunity to enter a drawing.  I admit I was so excited that neither of us are sure what the drawing is for!  It has to be good, right?!  We also each received a Truly Me activity kit for visiting.  I appreciate that they offered one to everyone who wished to have one, even if they didn’t have a little girl with them.

There were definitely shoppers there specifically for the promotion.  I would say maybe 20 families were checking out the dolls.  When the crowds cleared I got a few pictures of the arrangement of the shop in shop.

img_8049One wall had the full-line of Truly Me dolls, as well as the a la carte clothing items.

img_8048Large items like the camper, kitchen, scooter and canopy bed are available – just take a ticket and the clerks will bring them up.  Brianna said she would pay for 24.99 of the kitchen if I covered the other $200.  Right.

img_8046Speaking of the kitchen, it is pretty terrific.  The flour and sugar containers are speckled inside as though the flour has stuck to the glass.

img_8045The kitchen has a built-in pet feeding station.  I would like American Girl to come turn this kitchen into a real kitchen in my house.  A girl can dream…

img_8041Across from the Truly Me wall were Wellie Wishers and some of the glass display cases showcasing holiday dresses and pets.

img_8043Overall I thought it was well done.  I haven’t been to a American Girl store in almost 2 years, so I appreciated seeing the items in person.  We did come home with the lasagne set, which I will feature in a future post.  I did not see any Journey Girls at this store, perhaps because of the arrival of American Girl.

Not all TRU stores carry the American Girl brand.  To find out if your local store has a Truly Me shop in shop, visit the TRU website.

How exciting! There are three TRUs in Virginia that have them, and the closest one to me is about 30 minutes away. I’m resisting the temptation to drive down there, for now. What a great review!

I like the way you added “for now” LOL! Between Kohls, TRU, and Samantha at Costco, those kinds of opportunities would increase the likelihood that I would but products. I usually only pay shipping for a special occasion like Christmas.

Thanks for posting all the photos of TRU AG…..I am in SoCal and there are only 2 stores somewhat near me…both about an hour away on either direction! Maybe when I feel like driving that far, I will toss a coin to see which direction I will take!

You are welcome! It was something different to do today. Interesting to me that this particular TRU store is not in a particularly affluent area (compared to other locations I am aware of).

I went to TRU a week ago, as I called ahead to see IF they had Wellie Wishers and they did, so I HAD to stop & pick up Camille! She’ll likely be appearing in a post on my neglected blog soon! As of last week my nearest TRU store (Chandler, AZ) had lots of WW’s & still had lots of JG’s. Not sure IF they’ll be adding the TM line. Our Scottsdale, AZ AG Store is over 100-mile trip for me. 😦

Congratulations on Camille! When my blog is neglected I know I’m not playing enough, and that makes me grumpy. It’s one of the few things I do just for me.
I can imagine that they wouldn’t sell AG and Journey at the same time. It would really highlight the cost of AG?

That’s so fun you got to go! It looks really big. Thankfully, there aren’t any TRUs near me that have a TM section (Kohl’s is convenient enough for me, and I live pretty close to AGP Chicago anyway). I had heard a rumor that the TRUs selling TMs were not going to sell JG but I don’t know if that’s true.

I think it would be neat if they had some carpet in that section… it might make it seem more like its own space. I do think that they won’t have Journey Girls at these stores… it would just be too easy to compare the prices.

I agree. Carpet would make it cozy and easier to get down on your hands and knees to compare dolls if you want to. Though, are you allowed to open them at TRU, cause you can’t at Kohl’s.

Very interesting! I’m contemplating a trip to the one nearest here to check it out, it’s an hour away and only about 20 minutes from where the AG Popup store is. And I did read somewhere that the stores that have these in will not have Journey Girls. I’m sure there was probably some sort of competition stipulation if I know Mattel. 😉

I just got Lea Clark at Kohl’s the other day when my Mom took me and my nurse Carol on Tuesday October 25th and I finally brought her home! I’m happy that she’s safe with me so that I can take care of her by making sure that she needs a lot of love!

Thank you Jen! I would’ve been sad if she wasn’t at Kohl’s before I went into the store so that I can rescue her! My entire collection is a total of eight dolls! Grace really wants to be her friend so that’s why I told my Mom that I want Lea Clark so bad for Christmas before she retires!

I really like Lea Clark because she’s my favorite doll in the whole world and I love her very much as my best friend because I’m taking her to Florida with me so that she can spend time with Grace and Julie! I have a total of eight dolls in my collection and I always take care of my girls every single day and night by dressing them in their daytime clothes and when I get ready for bed I would change my dolls by putting their pajamas on! I really enjoy spending quality time with my dolls because it keeps me occupied when I am watching my favorite game show on television! All I want for Christmas is a doll stand for Lea Clark and some of her accessories before she retires at the end of December! I really like my new doll because it was a early Christmas present from my Mom when she took me to Kohl’s after my doctors appointment!
